This is a video of Susan Boyle performing her soaring rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” from the musical Les Miserables.

This 47-year old church volunteer wowed judges and audience alike when she appeared as a contestant on the third series of “Britain's Got Talent”.

The moment you hear her sing, you will be astonished by this simple-looking woman and not only would you want to listen to her over and over but you would want to know more of her.

Susan Boyle was born in Blackburn, West Lothian Scotland and has lived there for most of her life.  She belongs to a middle class family, her father being a storeman in a factory and her mother a shorthand typist.  Susan is the youngest in the brood of 9, 4 boys and 5 girls and was born when her mother was already 47.   At an early age, she had learning difficulties and had endured bullying at school.

Later, Susan Boyle, attended the Edinburgh Acting School.   As she was having her short stint as a cook trainee for a local college, she would go out on her breaks to listen to professional singers and would occasionally sang at local venues.  In 1999 she recorded a version of “Cry Me a River” for a charity CD which was funded by the local council to commemorate the Millennium. She took her singing lessons from Fred O’Neil, a voice coach, who also persuaded her to go audition in the show, “Britain’s Got Talent”.

While her mother was still alive it was her mother, Bridget, who always encouraged her to become a singer.  Her mother’s death in 2007 spurred her to pursue her dream in singing.  It was Susan’s way of honoring her mother's memory by auditioning.

At 47, Susan Boyle still dared to dream!  Though she was laughed at by the audience, she stood on the stage unfazed, inspiring us with her confidence.  And now, people of all ages would like to hear Susan Boyle sing.

She proves that age and looks should not be a hindrance to achieving a dream.  Never stop dreaming and trying for someday you too will have your chance to make it out there.
